West Orange Rec 7-8 Lacrosse Finishes Strong Season

WEST ORANGE, NJ - The West Orange Recreation Department continues to develop the lacrosse program in the town. The West Orange 7th/8th-grade boys rec lacrosse team accomplished a significant feat this 2013 season by achieving a winning record for the first time in its four year existence. 

The team, led by captains Andrew diPalma (midfield), Alan Benson (defense) and Gene Gonzalez (goalie), are part of a team that proudly displayed respect and commitment throughout the spring season.

The team played  21 games, and goals were scored by Alan Benson, Dane Clarke, Dylan Cowley, Liam Cunningham, Brian diPalma, Jeffy John, Ryu Mondesir, Conal O' Suileabhain, Michael Sules.  Andrew DiPalma led the team with 54 goals. Dylan Cowley, who scored 10 goals, is only the third player in West Orange youth Lacrosse history to hit double digit goals in a season.  Also strong on offense was Amine Belharchi, Sekou Rowe, Tyler Eatman, and Cal Jenkins.

On the defensive end there was strong field play from Alan Benson, Erik "EJ" Akerblom, Caleb McNeil, Sachin John, Sebastian Paredes Munoz, Victor Kuga, Elian Rodriguez, Christina Gupta and our outstanding goalie, Gene Gonzales. 

The dedication and leadership of head coach Kevin Appenzoller and conditioning coach Steve Milano is what led this team to success. 

Coach Appenzoller said, "I am proud to coach such a dedicated group of young lacrosse players. As a team they've exceeded my wildest expectations. With their hard work we are creating a great foundation for West Orange lacrosse."
