The pool is being readied for use as the Department of Public Works and outside contractors clean and repaint the facilities. Landscaping and a few necessary minor repairs are also being completed.  Our recently upgraded filtration system promises to keep our pool water clean and safe for all the swimmers. The planned upgrade to the Kiddie Pool will not be installed until after the summer season, as delays in planning and implementation prevented the work from being completed in time for the opening of the pool.

Mark your calendars now for the ever popular  Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 1 at the 20th Annual Fishing Derby at Crystal Lake beginning at 9:00 am.  Bring your own fishing gear and bait will be for sale.  Each child will receive a memento of the occasion.  Light refreshments will be available for sale and anyone over the age of 14 requires a fishing license.  The event will go on in the event of mildly inclement weather, please call the weather hotline at 973-243-1115 for confirmation.  For a copy of the event flyer, please click here.

Visit the West Orange Recreation page on the website frequently, where information is always being added.  Parents and guardians can also get information about signups for the West Orange Police Athletic League and Mountaintop League on the Rec website.  The West Orange Recreation program is one of the best in Essex County, and future articles will highlight some of the great sports initiatives and programs being put into place for the youth of West Orange.

I am truly awed by the Olympics.  Watching these superb young athletes on TV inspires me to renew my membership to the gym and pursue my lifelong dream of taking home the gold.

The problem is that in my deluded head, I can see actually see myself standing atop the podium.  I am wrapped in a puffy designer ski coat with a huge piece of bling slung around my neck ...
