WEST ORANGE, NJ — The number of active cases of COVID-19 reached a nearly three-month low on Wednesday.

According to Mayor Robert Parisi in a post on his Facebook page, there were 367 "current active" cases throughout the township, which he reported was the fewest since April 7, when testing was not nearly as widespread as it is now.

There were two new coronavirus cases in West Orange on Wednesday, bringing the West Orange total intake of cases to 1,395. Three residents remained hospitalized, of which, one is in intensive care. The township reports that there have been 954 recovered and closed cases, and a total of 5,676 negative test results.

Essex County reported 43 new cases of the virus on Wednesday, for a county-wide total of 18,787 cases of COVID-19. There have been 83,327 negative test results in Essex County. There have been 1,778 deaths in Essex County attributed to the coronavirus. There were no additional deaths reported in the county overnight.
