West Orange School Bus Loses Brakes on Eagle Rock Avenue, Collides With Car

WEST ORANGE, NJ - The No. 316 School bus, bringing a busload of Pleasantdale Elementary school children home from school Friday afternoon, lost its brakes on Eagle Rock Avenue around 3:40 pm and collided with a Nissan Altima preparing to turn.  No injuries were reported.

Police and emergency vehicles were on the scene, along with Interim Superintendent James O'Neill and administrative personnel from the Board of Education, which is only blocks from the scene of the accident.  Eagle Rock Avenue was blocked from below Prospect Avenue to Valley Way.

The No. 306 bus was there to transport students in the damaged bus.  Worried parents and guardians gathered at the scene, along with neighbors and passerby.

NJ Governor Signs Executive Order to Fly Flags at Half-Staff to Recognize Parkland Florida Victims

New Jersey Governor Phillip D. Murphy signed Executive Order No.1 on Monday ordering the flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of New Jersey to be flown at half-staff to recognize and mourn the passing of the victims in Parkland, FL.

The order is for all state offices, agencies and municipalities, including schools for Tuesday, Feb. 20.
