WEST ORANGE, NJ — The Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh Essex Division is currently planning its 52nd annual Dinner Dance event to be held on May 9 at Mayfair Farms in West Orange, where the organization will honor 2020 Shillelagh Men of the Year Mark Moran of West Orange and Thomas "T-Mal" Malkinski of Parsippany as well as "Friend of the Friendly Sons" honoree Kay Slattery of Caldwell.
According to the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh, which is known as one of the premier Irish organizations in the tri-state area, Moran and Malkinski are both longtime members of The Friendly Sons, and Slattery is "a generous and dedicated supporter" of the Essex Division, a "distinguished member of the community" and an individual "whose Irish traditions can be traced back many years."
The Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh has a large clubhouse in West Orange with a public bar that is known throughout the community for its hospitality, welcoming atmosphere and diversity of entertainment offerings, including free live music every Friday and Saturday night.
The West Orange Shillelagh Club is host to many Irish groups in the area, including the Ancient Order of Hibernians; the Women of Irish Heritage; and The Essex County Police and Fire Emerald Society. Additionally, the Friendly Sons support various charitable organizations such as the St. Baldrick’s Foundation to find a cure for childhood cancer, Avon Walk for Life and Wounded Warrior events. The local chapter also sponsors scholarships to several deserving young adults to assist with their high school and college educations.
Tickets to the event are available for $100, which includes cocktail hour, a five-hour open bar, dinner and dancing to "The Ryan Express Band." The Shillelagh Pipe Band and the DeNogla-Ardmore School of Irish Dance will also perform during the event.
Cocktail hour will begin at 6 p.m. with dancing to follow from 7:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.
A commemorative Ad Journal will highlight all event sponsors. To support the organization or the honorees with an ad or to join them for an evening of Irish entertainment, contact firstname.lastname@example.org or visit shillelaghclub.com/dance/.
