NEWARK, NJ — Two 21-year-old individuals were arrested this week for the theft of an Amazon delivery van’s packages on Dec. 17, according to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose.
Just before 3:30 p.m. on that date, police responded to the intersection of Dickerson and North 5th streets on a call of a robbery, according to Ambrose. The Amazon delivery van driver, identified as Diana Goulborne of West Orange, said that following a brief conversation with two unknown males, she was forced by one of the men, who displayed a handgun, to drive him around in the delivery van.
According to police, she further stated that the man then exited the vehicle at Sanford Avenue and Cliff Hill Place, after taking the packages from inside the van.
Detectives were able to determine that Goulborne was involved in the theft of the van’s contents and fabricated the story about being robbed.
Troy Leake, 21, of Orange, was arrested on Monday without incident and is charged with Theft and Conspiracy to Commit Theft. Goulbourne was arrested on Thursday and charged with Theft, Conspiracy to Commit Theft, Filing a False Police Report and False Swearing.
These charges are merely accusations and each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
