EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ -- Two members of the West Orange wrestling team were crowned champions Saturday at the District 12 tournament at Becton High School.

Adonis May and Amadu Kamara each won titles in their respective weight classes. May decisioned Jarrett Pantuso of Warren Hills, 11-5, in the 182-pound final round. Kamara beat Jorge Montenegro of West Morris, 1-0, in the 220-pound championship bout.

May reached the final by pinning Harry Frayne of West Morris in 1:29 in the 182 semifinal. Kamara pinned Julian Moszcynski of Madison in 2:35 in the 220 semifinal.

Damianlee Torres and Ari Rosu of West Orange each claimed second place in their weight classes. Torres beat Matt Hernandez of Madison in a 13-3 major decision in the 120-pound semifinal before falling to Jarred Lee of Warren Hills in a hard-fought 4-2 verdict in the final. Rosu pinned Kyle Grund of Union City in 52 seconds in the 160-pound semifinals before falling, 9-4, to Owen Frizzell of Warren Hills in the championship bout.

The Mountaineers finished third in the team standings with 117 points. Warren Hills (217) and West Morris (206.5) were first and second.

The Mountaineers advanced six wrestlers to the regional tournament, to be held at West Orange High School beginning Feb. 26 and 28 at 6 p.m., and Feb. 29 at 9 a.m. May, Kamara, Torres, Rosu, Michael Charles (152 lbs.) and Danny Pereira (195 lbs.) qualified for the regions.
