Council President Victor Cirilo Makes Statement, Updated 11/16/12

November 10, 2012 at 1:14 PM

Besides my family, West Orange and my service to our community are the highest priorities in my life. I accept full responsibility for any blemish to the township and apologize to our citizens. This is the first time I have ever been involved in such a situation and ask that we do not rush to judgment as I intend to defend myself against the allegations.

Editor's Note:  The Alternative Press of West Orange has been informed that Council President Victor Cirilo recently received a DUI Summons.  He submitted this statement to The Alternative Press of West Orange in response to receiving the DUI Summons.

There has been quite a bit of discussion recently as to why The Alternative Press of West Orange has not reported on Council President Cirillo's summons for a DUI.

To be clear, The Alternative Press does not report on and has never reported on a DUI, whether committed by a member of the public or an
elected official.

We do, however, routinely publish police blotters in the towns we cover in their entirety and they often include DUIs.

We simply do not believe DUIs warrant a separate news story in addition to them being published in the blotter.

We understand other publications believe differently and that you may believe differently - - that is your business and we respect our
difference of opinion.

In this instance, The Alternative Press received a statement from Council President Cirillo and published it in the ordinary course as it
would any other statement that was submitted to The Alternative Press, regardless of the identity of the author. As of the date of that statement and continuing up to today's date, no police blotter has yet reflected Council President Cirillo's summons. The Alternative Press will publish the West Orange blotter as well as the police blotters from any of the towns we cover, as soon as it becomes available, as we always have and will continue to do.

Editor's Note:  11/16/12:  We received the following police blotter today from the Verona Police Department, which we have published in its entirety.  While we typically do not publish police blotters from towns outside of our coverage area, we believe the public's interest is best served by our publishing it:  Verona Police Blotter

Going for Brass

I get all teary-eyed watching the Olympics on TV.  You  know, the human drama, the sacrifice, the dedication, the thrill of competition, the athletic lip sync murmur to the national anthem on the podium.

This year I discovered that there are many other Olympic champions besides the usual cadre of spring-wound gymnastic pixies and ferociously wedged, hairless swimmers ...

Some Like it Hot

“Oh boy!” exclaimed my husband. “There’s a hot sauce shop in town!”

We were away antiquing for the weekend in a quaint village populated by Bed and Breakfasts, art galleries, and apparently, a hot sauce shop. For my husband, this was like discovering that someone had bought you a lottery ticket and you won… if the lottery prize was a fireball that would ...

Ionesco’s ‘Exit the King’ Makes for Powerful Drama at New Jersey Shakespeare Theatre

MADISON, NJ – There’s dying and then there’s dying in long, drawn-out agony. Well, if you’ve been king for 400 years, you won’t disappear quietly. No doubt King Berenger thinks he’s immortal and, like many of us today, lingers long after he’s of any use to himself or others.

The king on "Exit The King" is ravenously alive early on, still ...
