Summer 2018 Events at the West Orange Public Library


WEST ORANGE, NJ — Beginning in June, the West Orange Public Library will offer the following events for area residents of all ages:

Dinosaurs’ Rock!                                             

Monday, June 11, 4:00 p.m.

Field Station Dinosaur visits with the Dinosaur Troubadour and the mighty T-Rex. Meet an unbelievably life-like roaring, breathing 15-foot juvenile T-Rex. An interactive, Paleozoic adventure! Pre-K–5th

Music, Bubble, and Comedy Show         

Monday, July 2, 10:30 a.m.

This program engages children with songs, comedy, bubbles, music technology and original stories about why Libraries Rock! The show is crafted to be inclusive for all children including children on the Autism Spectrum. Children of all abilities

“Rock on” at the Family Kick-off Event 

Monday, June 25, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Rock out with your family and dance the night away. Music, D.J., games, face painting, popcorn = fun!

Bach 2 Rock

Monday, July 9, 4:30 p.m.

Go on a classical journey from the days of Bach to today’s techno-wonders as Caryn Lin transforms sound through the use of her five-string electric violin.  Explore modern music techniques like looping and the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) concepts that bring music to life! Grades K-5.

Earth Rocks!

Monday, July 16 at 4:30 p.m.

Rutgers’ University Geology Museum presents Digging into the Past. Join the staff of the Rutgers University Geology Museum for an interactive activity to explore the various digging and excavation done by Geologists to uncover the multitude of Earth’s treasures. Followed by hands on geology and themed arts and crafts and time to “Ask the Geologist.”

Rock Star Jester Jim                                       

Monday, July 23 at 7:00 p.m.

This is not your ordinary juggling show!” With a trunk full of props and a looping machine, Jester Jim takes the stage and starts his show. Young and old will be glued to his every sound as he performs his amazing beatbox intro.  Kids and adults alike will be talking about Jester Jim's wild antics for weeks!

Rock-a Bye Baby

Babies to 2 years: Friday, July 27 at 10:30 a.m.

Toddlers & preschool: Friday, July 27 at 11:30 a.m.

Music Together presents a program for young children and their caregivers.  Sing, play and listen in this group activity.

Artists Rock!

Monday, July 30 at 4:30-6:30 p.m.

(Rain date is Wednesday, August 1)

The Montclair Art Museum Truck visits the Library to inspire young artist’s imaginations and develop their creative talents.  All Ages

Safari Animal workshop                               

Monday, August 6 at 7:00-8:00 p.m.

Noah’s Arch Safari babies workshop. Children’s will select and hand stuff a plush pal. Wish on a Star and name their new friend. Ages Pre-K – 3rd grade. Space is limited. Registration required.

Chess championship tournament       

Monday, August 13 from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Livingston at West Orange Library 5th Annual Chess Tournament.  Advocate for your favorite champ. Grades 3rd to 5th.

Teen Kickoff! Music Technology

Wednesday, June 27, 7:00pm-8:30 p.m.

Music Producer, composer and sound designer Brent Daniels brings his exciting music technology program to the Library. Brent’s recent credits include producing and composing music used in commercials for the movies Black Panther and A Wrinkle in Time. Please register. Grades 6-12.

Giant Video Games

Wednesday, July 11, 6:30pm-8:30 p.m.

Absolutely Entertainment bring two music themed video games, Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero, to the library for an evening of big-screen rockin’ game play! Please register. Grades 6-12.

Open Mic Night!

Wednesday, July 18, 7:00 p.m.- 8:30 p.m.

West Orange Teen singers, musicians, comedians, storytellers, and poets show off your talents at our summer Open Mic Night! Enjoy snacks and refreshments as you listen to the talents of your peers. Please register. Grades 6-12.

Super Smash Bros. Gaming Tournament

Wednesday, July 25, 6:30pm-8:30 p.m.

Join your friends for the ultimate tournament of Super Smash Bros. for the WiiU! Registration Required. Grades 6-12. Please note:  this is a bracket tournament. All players must register in advance and arrive by 6:30 p.m. in order to participate in the tournament.

Harry Potter Rocks!
