LIVINGSTON, NJ - The Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges will hold its first Mother's Day Weekend Virtual 5K and Family Fun Run, an opportunity for people of all ages to get outside, get active, and engage with their community while also staying safe and practicing social distancing.

The event will take place Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10. Participants can choose the distance they will be running and map out their own course.

The event also includes fun and friendly contests using social media, with entrants vying for the best finish line decorations and training methods. The Y has created a unique training regimen for participants to prepare for race weekend while also engaging on social media. Participants can run with their pets, dress in their favorite superhero outfit or sports team apparel, and post their photos on Facebook. Winners will have the chance to win gift cards to use at local businesses.

Registrants ages 10 and above pay a nominal entry fee with proceeds benefiting the community through services the Y is providing during this pandemic. The Metro YMCAs have launched a Strength of Community Campaign with an annual fundraising goal of $250,000 to support programs and services that combat isolation, provide essential and lifesaving needs, address food insecurity, and support the academic enrichment of youth.

“Despite the challenges this public health crisis has presented, our Ys continue to offer new and exciting activities to engage our members and encourage them to be healthy at home,” said Richard K. Gorab, President and CEO of the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges. “The Virtual 5K and Family Fun Run is a great way for families to celebrate all the moms and mother figures in our lives while supporting the Y and the local business community.”
