Not every job has you pointing a video camera at a major traffic accident one minute and an impromptu gangland turf war the next. Such is the life of Mel Sayavedra, bi-lingual photojournalist for Univision and ABC's affiliate in Dallas, TX. Remarkably, Mel finds time to raise five very well-adjusted kids who range in interests from military service to art and music.

In this edition of Bad to the Dad, Adam D speaks with Mel about his adventures in broadcast journalism, growing up in Veracruz, Mexico, and the great respect he has for his own father, who Mel considers his counselor, mentor, and friend.

"Mel's stories about his time in Mexico really shed light on a country that's been making polarizing headlines," says Bad to the Dad co-host Adam D. "When you hear about Mexico in the news lately, it's mainly about the issues at the border and the building of the border wall, which has become a political lightning rod. Mel informs us that you could have a pretty normal, healthy childhood growing up in some of these large Mexican cities."
