Conserve and Protect the Environment by Participating in Earth Hour

WEST ORANGE, NJ — For the past seven years, Township Council President Susan McCartney has registered the Township of West Orange as a community pledging to participate in this global Earth Hour event—the simple act of joining millions of others from 170 countries around the world in turning off the lights for one hour, she explained.

Each year, the township is joined by a small group of activists at the 9/11 Memorial Park at Eagle Rock Reservation at 8:30 p.m. to witness the panoramic view of the NYC skyline as it goes dark alongside 180 major cities around the world that will turn out the lights in major buildings.

As the Sustainable Jersey Coordinator for West Orange, McCartney’s primary task is to inform and educate the community on actions the public can take to conserve and protect the environment. The West Orange Environmental Commission continues to grow as the community realizes that its actions can actually make an environmental impact.

The public is invited to join the World Wildlife Federation's global movement to turn off their lights for one hour – “Earth Hour” — beginning at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 24.

In the Drink

On a recent trip to California I ordered a glass of lemonade with lunch.  My ice cold drink came without a straw.

I can’t drink lemonade without a straw.  Margaritas either.  For me, drinking from a glass without a straw is kind of like eating eating soup without a spoon.  Sooner or later liquid ends up all over my shirt.

Besides, it ...
