WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange High School raised funds for the Principal’s Scholarship on Friday through Pocketbook Bingo, the second of two annual events held in support of this cause.
After expenses, Friday’s event raised approximately $3,000. The event also saw nearly 100 participants this year, including West Orange Mayor Robert Parisi’s wife, Sheila Parisi.
“What I love most about these fundraisers is being with nice people who are very supportive of these events,” she said.
The $40 admission fee to Friday’s event was $40 included five bingo boards, a marker and dessert with additional bingo boards and special game boards available for purchase. All proceeds went to the West Orange graduating seniors through the Principal’s Scholarship Fund.
According to event chair Debbi Zarro, 10 games were played with each winner received a designer pocketbook from Tory Burch, Michael Kors, Kate Spade and more that were purchased at designer outlet stores for discounted prices. One bag was also donated by a family member.
If two players called Bingo at the same time, the winner was determined by a card drawing and the lower card would receive a smaller prize, such as a designer wallet. This occurred when Patti DeSantis and another competitor shouted “Bingo!” simultaneously. DeSantis drew the high card, and walked away with a $448 Michael Kors bag.
Zarro thanked those who helped spread the word about the event via social media, the township website, the district website, Naviance and more.
“Perry Bashkoff and Cynthia Cumming are our social media people who have done a fabulous job with all social media outlets,” said Zarro. “We are very pleased with the turnout.
The first fundraised this year, Bowling for Scholarships at Eagle Rock Lanes, was held on Feb. 2 to raise money for the Principal’s Scholarship Fund. Anyone who could not attend these events are still encouraged to donate by clicking HERE.
