By CYNTHIA CUMMING

WEST ORANGE, NJ - On Saturday, March 1, the Township held its initial Budget Hearing for the 2014 Municipal Budget. Mayor Robert Parisi and township administration submitted a working budget to the Township Council with a 0% tax increase.

The 0% increase still allowed the council to approve recommendations for employee promotions and adjust salaries to reflect accurate job titles.

According to Council President Susan McCartney, "The Administration is to be commended for presenting a clean, efficient budget that includes long-term goals and objectives."

This is the fourth municipal budget in five years that has been presented with a 0% tax increase. Last year's increase of 1.4% represented an approximate increase of $61 for taxpayers.
