WEST ORANGE, NJ – Assisted living facilities for senior citizens across the country recently observed National Assisted Living Week, during which Mayor Robert Parisi visited Brookdale West Orange Senior Living Center to present a proclamation declaring it Assisted Living Week in West Orange.

The proclamation, which urged all citizens to volunteer and to visit friends and loved ones at the assisted living communities they call home, was presented to Joseph Brandspiegel, executive director of Brookdale West Orange.

“We were honored to be presented with the proclamation,” said Brandspiegel. “It reinforces our belief that the residents and staff of senior living communities, like Brookdale West Orange, deserve to be recognized and celebrated.”

According to Brandspiegel, the staff members at Brookdale West Orange work “very hard every day” to enrich the lives of the more than 100 senior residents who live there. He said he was honored that the Township of West Orange took notice of the senior living industry and visited Brookdale with the proclamation.

“Senior citizens form the backbone of every community,” said Parisi, who acknowledged the senior population’s many contributions to the West Orange community. “As their needs change with age, it’s important for us to recognize the role assisted living centers play in assuring their proper care in a place they can call home.”
