WEST ORANGE, NJ — Of the five latest confirmed cases of COVID-19 in West Orange, four of them are in people under the age of 20.

According to Mayor Robert Parisi, posting on his Facebook page Thursday, there were five new confirmed cases of the coronavirus among township residents on Thursday. Four of them were between the ages of 10 and 19. The other was a 38-year-old resident.

The total intake of cases in West Orange was 1,559, but there were only 45 current active cases in West Orange as of Thursday. The total number of COVID-19 related deaths in West Orange was 187.

There have been two coronavirus-related deaths reported in West Orange since the beginning of August.

A total of 9,927 residents have tested negative for the virus. One resident was currently hospitalized with the coronavirus. There have been 1,429 recovered and closed cases in West Orange.

Essex County reported a total of 20,892 cases of COVID-19 Thursday, 30 more than the previous day. The county has stopped reporting daily updates of the number of test results to come back negative. There have been 1,899 deaths in Essex County attributed to the coronavirus.
