WEST ORANGE, NJ — There were two additional cases of COVID-19 reported in West Orange on Monday, according to Mayor Robert Parisi, who reported on his Facebook page Monday that there were no additional deaths related to the coronavirus.

The total intake of cases in West Orange was 1,336. Deaths are included in the "total intake" number and remain "active" until a full investigation is complete. The total number of COVID-19 related deaths in West Orange was 168.

Thirteen West Orange residents were hospitalized with the coronavirus, and, of them, four were in intensive care. There were 469 current active coronavirus cases in West Orange. The township reports that there have been 797 recovered and closed cases.

In 11 of the last 12 days, the increase in the amount of new coronavirus cases in West Orange has been less than five.

Essex County reported a total of 18,059 cases of COVID-19 Monday. There have been 50,540 negative test results in Essex County. There have been 1,706 deaths in Essex County attributed to the coronavirus. Essex County reported no additional COVID-19 deaths overnight Sunday.

In New Jersey, an additional 333 coronavirus cases Monday brought the total in the state to 164,497, according to the state Department of Health. The number of new cases in the state has been less than 800 every day in June. By comparison, in the first eight days of May, the state was averaging 2,138 new cases per day.

The number of COVID-19 patients hospitalized statewide as of late Sunday was 1,740, 29 fewer than the day before. The number of COVID-19 related hospitalizations statewide -- which at its peak was more than 8,000 in April -- has fallen by more than 29 percent since the beginning of June.
