WEST ORANGE, NJ — There were two additional cases of COVID-19 reported in West Orange on Monday, according to Mayor Robert Parisi.
The total intake of cases in West Orange was 1,455, with no additional deaths reported on Monday. Deaths are included in the "total intake" number and remain "active" until a full investigation is complete. The total number of COVID-19 related deaths in West Orange was 184.
Three West Orange residents were hospitalized with the coronavirus, with one in intensive care. There were 145 current active coronavirus cases in West Orange. The township reports that there have been 1,234 recovered and closed cases.
Essex County reported a total of 19,397 cases of COVID-19 Monday, an increase of 53 overnight. There have been 112,479 negative test results in Essex County. There have been 1,850 deaths in Essex County attributed to the coronavirus.
The state Department of Health reported that the number of coronavirus-related hospitalizations statewide fell below 700 for the first time since early in the spring.
"All the metrics in our health care system continue to trend positively," New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy tweeted Monday afternoon. "We're seeing our standing in the national rankings decrease. But, we must remain vigilant."
