WEST ORANGE, NJ -- The number of additional COVID-19 cases in the township increased by 11 for the second consecutive day on Sunday, according to data provided by the township and by Essex County.

There are 736 current active cases of the coronavirus in West Orange, although the average increase of nine new cases per day over the last four days represents a considerable falloff from the virus' peak in April, when there were frequently in excess of 30 new cases in a day.

There have been 141 deaths of township residents attributed to COVID-19. Eleven West Orange residents remain hospitalized with the virus, four of whom are in ICU.

In Essex County, there were a total of 15,646 coronavirus cases as of Sunday morning, an increase of 78 since late Saturday. There have been 1,427 deaths in the county attributed to COVID-19. There have been 19,099 tests in Essex County that have come back negative for the virus.
