WEST ORANGE, NJ — Wes Orange Mayor Robert Parisi sounded a note of optimism based on recent data in the fight against the COVID-19 coronavirus.

"Three days in a row, new cases have been less than 30," Parisi posted on his Facebook page Sunday, Tthe number of recovered and closed cases has surpassed 100, and the number of negative test results continues to climb…all good signs!"

There were 29 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the township overnight and no additional deaths. The West Orange total intake of cases is 937, including 782 current active cases. There are 20 residents currently hospitalized with the virus, five of whom are in ICU. The township total of COVID-19 related deaths stands at 99.

There are 12,944 confirmed cases of the virus in Essex County as of Sunday morning. There have been 10,667 tests in the county that have come back negative for the virus, which has been associated with a total of 1,024 deaths in Essex County since the start of the pandemic late in the winter.
