WEST ORANGE, NJ — The West Orange Police Department apprehended a suspect Wednesday in the cases of numerous package thefts over the past few days in the Washington Heights neighborhood.

One of the victims of the stolen packages was able to view the theft occur in real time on his home security camera, police said. He kept visual tabs on the suspect as he walked away and provided a specific location to responding patrol units.

A follow-up investigation by investigators determined that the suspect has a criminal history for burglary and thefts. He was subsequently charged with four separate counts of theft.

"This was an excellent example of community partners working together with officers to keep his/her neighborhood safe and deter future crimes from occurring," West Orange police said in a statement.
