WEST ORANGE, NJ -- The Essex County Sheriff's Office had closed a portion of Eagle Rock Avenue due to treacherous conditions from the snowstorm, but the road was later reopened.
Township spokesman Joe Fagan released the news from the sheriff's office shortly after 1 p.m. Monday that Eagle Rock Avenue westbound at Mountain Avenue has been shut down. Before 2 p.m., the thoroughfare again was open in both directions.
Other main roads in West Orange remain open, but the township has stated, "travel in West Orange is very slow. Residents should be advised to stay off roads for non-essential travel."
West Orange is under a Winter Weather Warning issued by the National Weather Service and in effect until 7 a.m. Tuesday. Snowfall rates are forecast to intensify as the afternoon goes on. Total storm accumulations could range between 5 and 9 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.
