WEST ORANGE, NJ — The West Orange Police Department reported making several drug-related arrests in the township over the last three weeks.

On Tuesday, Sept. 17, Rebekah Ruth Herrington of Maplewood, who the police report described as "a known CDS (controlled dangerous substance) user (who has) active warrants out of the Essex County Sheriff Department," was pulled over for a motor vehicle stop at the corner of Washington and High streets. Herrington told police that she had a crack pipe in her purse and heroin in her wallet. She also was in possession of a pill bottle containing Zolpiderm Tartrate, a sedative sometimes used to treat insomnia.

Herrington was arrested and charged with possession of CDS and drug paraphernalia, and with driving with a suspended license.

The next day, Sept. 18, West Orange police made two drug arrests at a location not disclosed on the police report released to the media. David "Jamil" Shears and Warren McLean were arrested and charged with drug paraphernalia after the West Orange Police Street Crimes Unit had received numerous "quality of life" complaints from neighborhood residents. Shears and McLean both had active warrants at the time of their arrests.

Shears was described by police as a "known heroin and 'crack' cocaine dealer who is selling CDS," and McLean was described as "a heroin abuser who purchases (sic) heroin from Shears." An immediate search of McLean's backpack revealed six cut straws with powdery residue on them. McLean has active warrants in Maplewood for assault and in Orange for both criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct.

On Wednesday, Oct. 2, West Orange police arrested Michael Davis Henderson on Main Street and charged him with possession, use or being under the influence of a CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia and harassment. Police responded to a report of a "suspicious person" on Main Street moving about a building at that location. A search of Henderson revealed three wax folds containing suspected heroin and a cut straw in the pocket of his pants.
