WEST ORANGE, NJ – A Young Family Chanukah Party will launch a new series of Gift-it-4Ward Young Family events at B'nai Shalom in West Orange, beginning Saturday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The party will feature a family-friendly Havdalah service, whacky menorah building and a sing-along Chanukah concert.
“The four Gift-it-4Ward Young Family Events we will be holding over the coming months will provide a wonderful opportunity for children, parents and grandparents to share exciting, fun-filled activities together, and learn more about the holidays and ways to give back to the community,” said Rabbi Robert Tobin, spiritual leader of B'nai Shalom. “Everybody is welcome to attend.”
The Young Family Chanukah Party will feature a sing-along with Lincoln Richman, a song leader and Judaic specialist at Camp Nah-Jee-Wah in Milford, PA. He teaches music in synagogues throughout northern New Jersey and at the JCC of Middlesex County. This program, which will include kid-friendly foods—including sufganiyot (donuts) and latkes—is for families with children of all ages and abilities.
“We are asking participants to Gift-it-4Ward by bringing pajamas, socks, slippers, or knit hats to be donated to children in need at Safe House,” said Rabbi Tobin. “We want children of all abilities to celebrate with us, and encourage parents or caregivers to let us know if their child needs any special accommodations to participate.”
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring friends and family members to this event, which will be held at B'nai Shalom, 300 Pleasant Valley Way in West Orange. Admission is $5 per child ages 3 to 12 years old; $15 maximum for a family.
The three Gift-it-4Ward Young Family events in 2019 will include a Young Family Tu B’Shevat on Saturday evening, Jan. 19, a Young Family Purim Carnival on Sunday morning, March 17, and a Young Family Israel in the Park Celebration on Sunday morning, May 5.
