WEST ORANGE, NJ -- The West Orange girls basketball team turned in a strong defensive effort and came away with a 38-25 victory over Glen Ridge in the first round of the Essex County Tournament on Thursday.

Carla Jones collected 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Mountaineers, who played without their leading scorer on the season, sophomore guard Kiley Capstraw.

Mackenzie Dover finished with eight points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals, and Natale Nevins passed for five assists and made four steals for West Orange (7-12), which outscored the Ridgers, 14-3, in the second quarter to take a 23-9 halftime.
