ATLANTIC CITY, NJ -- Daniel Pereira and Adonis May of West Orange each wrestled in Atlantic City this weekend at Boardwalk Hall in the NJSIAA individual championship tournament.
Pereira, wrestling at 195 pounds, lost a close decision, 7-6, to Mikal Taylor of Absegami in the preliminary round. Pereira, however, came back to win two matches in the wrestleback consolations. In the first, he decisioned Jacob Leiva of Cliffside Park, 9-4. He followed that with a 9-7 decision over Gavin Camoia of Mount Olive. His run came to an end against Patrick Dwyer of Long Branch in a 12-6 decision.
Jack Stoll of Pope John High School pinned May in a 182-pound preliminary bout, and Gavin Shields of West Deptford then decisioned May, 6-2, in the wrestlebacks. May actually wrestled at three different weight classes during the season. He was 8-2 at 182 pounds.
