WEST ORANGE, NJ - Tyler Galantini of West Orange has signed a letter of intent with Wagner College to continue his golf career while attending the school.
Galantini, a senior who attended Pleasantdale (now Kelly) Elementary, Edison and Liberty Middle Schools, said he has received a partial athletic scholarship to the college and plans to major in Business Administration.
"Tyler is entering his fourth season as a varsity starter," said golf coach Bill Urbanski. "He leads by example on and off the course."
Galantini is a three-time SEC All-Conference First Team selection; a two-time SEC Liberty Division champion; an Essex County Tournament runner-up; a two-time West Orange High School Athlete of the Month; and a two-time state tournament qualifier.
Galantini calls golf "an amazing game," and at 17 years old has already been playing for 14 years.
"My Dad taught me how to play golf when I was three, started taking lessons when I was six, and was in my first tournament at seven," he said. "I would love to thank Mr. Moore, Mr. Bligh, and the Library Media Center for making this signing possible. I would also love to thank Coach Urbanski for all of his help and support these past four years."
Urbanski added that Galantini is "an established golfer" who works continuously on all facets of his game "while taking time to improve his teammates' swing mechanics, course management and focus."
"Tyler thrives for the challenge of competing against the opposition's best golfers," said Urbanski. "He is intense, passionate and one of the top golfers in Essex County and in the state. He is the definition of a student-athlete and also excels in the classroom."
