The 21st Annual Service Auction to support the Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless will be held on Saturday, November 6th at the Parish Center of Saint Helen’s Church at the corner of Rahway Avenue and Lamberts Mill Road. The event, which includes a light dinner, begins at 6:30pm.
The Coalition has operated a very successful Hospitality House Program for the past two decades. The Program includes three multi-family houses in Elizabeth, and through the doors of these transitional houses, more that 155 men, women and children have found shelter – a place to call home – usually for only a few months, just long enough to get back on their feet.
The Hospitality House Program has welcomed families that have lost their homes due to layoffs or prolonged illnesses that have disrupted finances, as well as divorce or death of a loved one, which has torn families apart. The Program has also welcomed refugees, who have sought political asylum in America or fled religious persecution in their homeland.
For the past 20 years, one of primary sources of financial, physical, and spiritual support of the Hospitality House program has come from the Westfield-area community. Since 1989, an ever-growing group of volunteers has organized the annual service auction as a significant fundraiser for the Coalition. The Auction is a fun evening, bringing together so many friends and neighbors. The event includes a line-up of exciting and unique prizes, open to both live and silent bidding, as well as valuable raffles.
