WESTFIELD, NJ — This November, Westfield residents will choose from six candidates to fill three three-year terms (2017-2020) on the Westfield Board of Education. The deadline to file for candidacy was July 25 at 4 p.m.
Running for re-election are Brendan Galligan, Ginny Leiz and newly appointed member Amy Root, who was approved by the board to fill the seat vacated by Mitch Slater in June. Galligan began his term in 2013. Leiz has been serving since 2001.
Hoping to be elected for the first time are Michael Bielen, Anthony Pericolo and William Harmer.
Bielen has run for the school board before, in 2014, and lost in a tight race that November. Harmer and Pericolo are both 2016 graduates of Westfield High School.
The election will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
