WESTFIELD, NJ – In anticipation of the town's upcoming AddamsFest celebration, the municipality is holding a Halloween home decorating contest.

Officials are calling the contest “Haunt Your House." Open to all Westfield residents the contest encourages the public to get in the spooky spirit prior to the official start of AddamsFest, the town announced Monday.

Competitors must register their homes online to participate. Registration closes Oct. 5. Decorating must be complete by Oct. 11.

“Haunt Your House is a great way to capture the excitement throughout Westfield leading up to AddamsFest,” Councilwoman Dawn Mackey, chairperson of AddamsFest, said in a statement.

“We can’t wait to see the homes around town showcase their funny, scary or entertaining spirits.”

Residents will judge the homes on the AddamsFest website Oct. 12 through Oct. 27, during which time there will be a map of the decorated homes and the ability to vote for the top entries.

Judging will be based on decorations viewed from the street.

Contestants’ addresses will be displayed on a map on addamsfest.com so fellow residents can visit the homes and vote online.

Prizes for the first, second and third place winners will be announced at the AddamsFest closing ceremony on Oct. 28.
