NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - AIR® Aerial Fitness celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony last weekend at 1280 Springfield Avenue in New Providence. AIR® is the nation's leading aerial fitness training method, headquartered in Chicago, IL and is designed for all levels.

AIR® strengthens your core and tones your physique in record-breaking time by fusing elements of conditioning, Pilates and HIIT (high intensity interval training)," as said in airfitnow.com.

“Our clients are in good hands with over 10 experienced trainers who lead 35 classes or so each week in our studio,” said Carrie Sharpe, studio owner. "There are lots of options and formats." Sharpe is also excited to offer children's and teen programming.  “In November, we will launch our first six-week sessions for ages 5-8, 9-12 and 13-17; by the end of which, children will preform aerial skills for their families,” Sharpe explained. This series, the first of many to come will follow FREE AIR KIDS and Teen programming coming in October.

"We are excited to bring this brand to the Northeast," said Sharpe. "This is the 10th AIR® Aerial Fitness location in the U.S. and the first to open in the Northeast."

The instructors provided demonstrations and wowed the crowd with various aerial tricks. Sharpe reassured the guests they shouldn't be afraid to try it. "We want to let you know it is not scary -- many people are afraid of what can happen -- you start off low," she said, "we will get you there. Think: planks, lunges, step-ups and other group fitness style exercises and not Cirque du Soleil.”

This new-to-our-area aerial fitness training method was a hit to the many who came for the free trial classes offered the week before its grand opening. Councilwoman Nadine Geoffroy and her daughter were among the first to give it a try. "The class was great, I was scared -- [but] we did it and I'm sore today and look forward to doing it again."

Mayor Al Morgan and Councilwoman Geoffrey stood by Sharpe, her husband David and their two daughters as they cut the ribbon. Morgan welcomed them to New Providence.

Sharpe thanked the crowd and the community. "Thank you so much, Dave and I couldn't be happier to be in this spot in this community. It's been so welcoming," she said. "We are so excited to bring the AIR® brand to New Providence."
