In these uncertain times, you should have, at a very minimum, the four following documents in place:

Power of Attorney: This document allows you to appoint an agent to handle your assets and to make financial decisions on your behalf.

Health Care Proxy: This document allows you to appoint an agent, to make health care decisions on your behalf in the event you lose your decision-making capacity.

Living Will: This is a document in which you state your wishes regarding your future health care.

Last Will and Testament (a/k/a Will): This document that allows you to (1) leave your property and assets to your family, friends, charity, etc. as you desire; (2) choose your executor; (3) avoid the cost of having to pay for an administration bond (otherwise required); and (4) choose the guardian of any minor children.

Starting today, New Jersey put in place a new law to allow us to prepare and execute our client’s estate planning documents remotely.  There is no need to meet in person, and we can safely have your estate planning documents remotely prepared and executed properly without you having to leave your house. To remotely execute your estate planning documents you simply need the ability to conduct a video conference, i.e. use Zoom, Skype, Facetime, Google Hangout, etc.

With our ability to conduct a virtual consultation to discuss your wishes and desires, combined with the ability to remotely execute all of your estate planning documents, we can have your entire estate plan in place without you having to leave your house.  If you are one of the many that have not prepared your estate planning documents because you have been too busy, or have not updated your old estate planning documents, email or give us a call to schedule a free introductory telephone or video-conference consultation today.
