WESTFIELD, NJ — Jack Dobosiewicz has been making a name for himself this year as a forward for the Westfield High School varsity soccer team. The senior has already racked up 10 goals and five assists in 15 games for the Blue Devils.

This week’s Ron Bansky and Associates Allstate Westfield Athlete of the Week scored the game-winning goal to help the boys defeat rivals Scotch Plains 1-0 at home on Sept. 16. More recently, he made two goals and one assist in the 3-0 win away at Scotch Plains on Oct. 12.

For Dobosiewicz, his family is a huge influence and support system.

“I know that my mom and my siblings always support me when I play and they always push me to never give up and always give 100 percent in whatever I do,” he said.

In terms of soccer, Dobosiewicz listed coach Tom Bodily from his years of playing with FC Premier Cosmos as a huge inspiration.

“Tom’s support on and off the field was unlike any other. He helped me elevate my game and he is the real reason I love playing soccer today,” Dobosiewicz said.

Head coach Eric Shaw emphasized Dobosiewicz’s important offensive contributions to the team this season.

“Jack has scored some really important goals for us this year. With his pace, being a lefty, and being clinical up top, he is a very good player. Hopefully, he can continue that with counties this weekend and beyond with states,” Shaw said.

“It’s a huge honor to be Athlete of the Week,” Dobosiewicz said. “I think that it’s nice to be recognized for the things that I’ve done on the field.”

Despite the accomplishment, Jack’s mind is set on continuing the season’s success and working hard in his final year of high school soccer.

“This will not have an effect on the rest of the season,” Dobosiewicz said. “I know that if I continue to play the way I have been for the past month, the entire team and myself will find a lot of success. I plan on working my hardest every day at practice and in games so that I can continue to help my team.”

Outside of soccer, Dobosiewicz likes to play flag football and basketball with his friends and  watching “Game of Thrones.” He plans to study business and finance in college.

The Blue Devils will be face Governor Livingston on Thursday before suiting up for the county semifinals against Summit on Saturday.

Investors love to rally around a stock story. Today it’s all about the FAANG stocks. Facebook (FB), Amazon (AMZN), Apple (AAPL), Netflix (NFLX) and Google (GOOG) are a major reason why the S&P 500 rallied so much in 2017. Mr. Market is convinced the FAANGs are impervious to a sell-off. “Its different this time” is ringing loud and clear, but will the outcome really be that ...
