WESTFIELD, NJ —  Westfield High School defensive end and running back Jake Vall-Llobera had two sacks and seven tackles in the football team’s 30-14 win over Plainfield on Thanksgiving Day.

A junior, this week’s Ron Bansky and Associates Allstate Westfield Athlete of the Week has had three quarterback sacks and 12 tackles in the last two games, and he blocked a punt in the Plainfield game.

“Jake’s a great teammate who is always involved in everything the team does on and off the field,” head football coach Jim DeSarno said.

DeSarno expects “big things” from Vall-Llobera in the future.

“He will be our only returning defensive linemen, so he’s going to have to raise his level of play and really take on a leadership role with the team,” DeSarno said.

But first, the Blue Devils will play for the NJSIAA State Championship Saturday as they square off in a rematch of last year’s game against Bridgewater-Raritan. Both teams are undefeated this year. The game will be played at MetLife Stadium, home to both the New York Giants and Jets.

The Allstate Westfield Athlete of the Week is sponsored by Ron Bansky & Associates Allstate Agency.
