SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Anxiety is a normal part of life and children often go through phases of feeling overwhelmed or nervous from time to time.  When anxiety is experienced more consistently however; that nervousness, shyness and fear can have serious negative impacts on a child’s life.

Anxiety disorders affect one in eight children.  Research shows that untreated children with anxiety disorders are at higher risk to perform poorly in school, miss out on important social experiences, and engage in substance abuse.

The children’s anxiety group at the Hellenic Therapy Center is a 4 week program to help children ages 10-14 talk about their experience with anxiety in a safe and comforting environment.  The group will focus on strategies to self-regulate emotional ups and downs, identify feelings and recognize personal strengths.  Group discussion and hands on activities are tailored to be age appropriate and engaging.
