PLAINFIELD, NJ — Authorities suspect arson is to blame for a fire that ripped through an abandoned home Friday night.

Several pockets of flames spread throughout the home at 144 East 7th Street at about 11:15 p.m., a city spokeswoman said in a statement.

“Plainfield fire crews along with various mutual aid companies entered and extinguished the fires,” the spokeswoman, Jazz Clayton- Hunt, said. “The fires appeared to be the work of an arsonist and is under investigation.”

Nobody was injured in the blaze, she said.

Westfield and Garwood firefighters were among those to provide mutual aid.
