WESTFIELD, NJ — Wednesday, Feb. 14, is Ash Wednesday. As a help to commuters who are unable to get to church before their journey into the city, Rev. Dr. Duncan Johnston and friends from St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Westfield will be at the south entrance to the train station beginning at 7:20 a.m. to place ashes on anyone who wishes, the church announced Tuesday.

“We know that many people want to mark the start of Lent with ashes, but can't make it to church before their commute,” Fr. Johnston said. “I hope that taking the ashes to the people will be something that lifts their spirits and helps them mark the start of Lent in a meaningful way.”
