WESTFIELD, NJ — A 12-year-old boy riding a Razor scooter was struck by a car this morning near Lincoln School, according to Westfield Police Chief David Wayman.
“Just as a precaution, he was transported to University Hospital,” said Wayman.
The crossing guard had not yet arrived this morning when the accident occurred, according to Wayman. In their investigation, which is still ongoing, police found that the child did not stop to look for cars before crossing Westfield Avenue from east to west on his scooter. Because of a slight sunglare, the driver did not see the boy and struck him.
“It does not appear that speed was a factor,” said Wayman. The investigation into this accident will continue, he added.
