ROSELLE, NJ – Westfield advanced to the Union County final behind Nick Forno’s hat trick in a 6-1 win over Cranford on Wednesday.

Matt Beke gave the Blue Devils momentum just 3 minutes into the game with a goal.

One minute into the second period, senior Nick Forno scored his first of the game on a breakaway goal, which set the tone for the remainder of the game.

The Cougars cut the lead in half on a five-on-three power play goal, scored by Michael Schneider.

Forno quickly responded with his second goal of the game, which had the Blue Devils bench excitedly kicking the boards.

The Cougars went man down on a penalty, and Andrew Principato gave Westfield a three-goal lead late in the period.

Nick Forno capped off the goal filled second period as he scored his third of the game for the hat trick.

“It was a great feeling, but it’s not just me out there,” Forno said. “My teammates made some great passes and they set me up for success throughout this game.”

Matteo Mancheno finished the Blue Devils’ fourth straight high scoring game in the third period, winning the faceoff and carrying the puck into the center of the ice for the goal.

Westfield rides a four-game win streak going into their matchup against Summit set for Jan. 25.
