SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ — Before a large and boisterous crowd that attended the Westfield-Scotch Plains boys soccer showdown, the Blue Devils emerged victorious by topping the Raiders, 2-0.

Luke Beaulieu and Michael Birle found the back of the net for Westfield late in the second half of the game. The no. 16 Blue Devils goalie Cullen Birkel made eight saves during the shutout victory. Sean Murray had eight saves for the Raiders, who had gone into the game ranked as the no. 2 team in the state.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood drops to 4-1 and will next play Elizabeth on Monday, Sept. 21. The Blue Devils will host Linen on Sept. 24 at 4 p.m.
