SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — More changes on the local restaurant scene this week as Burger King on Route 22 East in Scotch Plains has closed permanently.

Just down the road on Route 22 West, the former Smiles Sandwich Shop will soon open as a Sri Lankan restaurant — the only one in the area. It will be called Ceylon Kottu Hut.

Kottu is a spicy Sri Lankan stir-fry made of shredded roti bread with vegetables, served with other ingredients such as egg, meat or cheese. Other delicacies served there will include Lamprais, which is made of rice boiled in chicken stock with a curry wrapped in a banana leaf and baked in an oven.
