WESTFIELD, NJ — Westfield’s City Sports is among eight of the regional chain’s 26 stores closing after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Monday, according to reports. An article in The Wall Street Journal says that City Sports will continue honoring customer gift cards and exchanges.
Store manager Robert Hagan confirmed that the Downtown Westfield shop, which opened in June 2014, will soon shut its doors after customers on its email list received a store-closing sale notice Friday.
“On behalf of myself and my staff, we want to thank the town of Westfield for supporting us, because they really did,” Hagan said.
A specialty athletic retailer, City Sports offered a comprehensive assortment of performance footwear, equipment and apparel from leading athletic and niche brands, as well as its proprietary CS by City Sports line. The shop is now selling its inventory at up to 40 percent off of its lowest ticketed prices.
“All sales are final,” Hagan said. “You’d better come in this weekend because it’s going fast.”
