BRIDGEWATER, NJ - The Somerset Patriots (22-17, 57-45) defeated the York Revolution (18-19, 50-50), 7-3, at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday evening.
Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Patriots rallied for four runs to claim the lead. The Patriots got on the board with an RBI single by Jayce Boyd before Nate Coronado crushed a three-run home run (8) to left field for a 4-3 advantage.
“[Mitch Atkins] was throwing me fastballs early in the game, so I was waiting for that pitch again,” said Coronado, who has three home runs in the last two games. “So when he threw it, I just saw it and let it go. I have been trying to keep everything simple at the plate. Early in the season I was swinging too hard, now I am just trying to play pepper.”
The Revolution had taken an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Alexi Casilla and a two-run home run by Melky Mesa (15).
The Patriots plated a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Jayce Boyd that cut the lead to 3-1.
Somerset extended their late lead with three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on RBI singles by Ramon Flores and Mike Fransoso, as well as another run on an error.
Dustin Molleken (3-2) picked up the win with two scoreless innings pitched. Mitch Atkins (10-5) suffered the loss, allowing four runs on six hits in six innings pitched.
The Patriots continue at home on Tuesday, August 21st with a 7:05 pm game against the Sugar Land Skeeters. The game features entertainment from The ZOOperstars! presented by the Somerset County Library System. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
