WESTFIELD, NJ — A recently formed business alliance dedicated to dismantling racism will hold a day of workouts in downtown Westfield Friday with monies raised going two New Jersey nonprofits that work toward social justice, organizers said.
The “Day of Donation WERKout Outdoor Fundraising Event” runs with workouts happening in front of the dance fitness studio Sweat|Sanctuary, 627 North Chestnut St., from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Registration is required. Click here to view the full schedule of events and sign up.
“We really wanted to do something with everyone, but we thought what can we put together that’s quick that’s loved by the community,” said Lisa Benke, founder of the business alliance, We Work for Change, which formed earlier this month. Benke is also the owner of Sweat|Sanctuary.
All monies raised at Friday’s event, Benke said, will be donated to the All Stars Project of New Jersey, which serves young people through educational programming in Newark, and the New Jersey Institute for Social Justice, which seeks to counter structural inequality through a range of advocacy tools, including research, analysis and writing, public education and grassroots organizing.
“We want to make sure that our funds are going toward local nonprofits that are funding underserved and underprivileged communities in New Jersey and are eager to make policy change for social equality and justice in the state,” Benke told TAPinto Westfield.
Studios participating in Friday’s event include HOME Power Yoga, Brassy Buddha Yoga Studio, 908 Athletics, Jordana Edelstein Strength & Yoga, Yoga Essence and Sweat|Sanctuary.
Space is limited due to social distancing. Participants are encouraged register for as many classes as you would like at www.sweatsanctuaryNJ.com and/or donate to these impactful organizations via Venmo: @lisa-benke.
