WESTFIELD, NJ — Dr. Derrick Nelson, one of three assistant principals at Westfield High School, will serve as principal of the school this fall, Superintendent Dr. Margaret Dolan said in a statement Wednesday.

“While Mr. Peter Renwick continues on leave, I have asked Dr. Derrick Nelson to fill the position of acting principal of Westfield High School until February 1st,” Dolan said. “Dr. Nelson has been assistant principal at Westfield High School since July 1, 2012, and previously held the position of assistant principal at Roosevelt Intermediate School. We will continue to rely on Assistant Principals Mr. Jim DeSarno and Ms. Maggie McFadden as dedicated members of the school’s administrative team.

“Filling the position of acting assistant principal, which had been held by Derrick Nelson, is a priority,” she continued. “I am confident that the Westfield High School administration, teachers and support staff will dedicate themselves to ensuring a productive school year for our students.”
