The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Westfield will hold its 33rd Annual Interfaith Commemoration Service on January 20, 2020. This service will be hosted by The Presbyterian Church in Westfield located at 140 Mountain Ave. in Westfield where Rev. Jeremy Jinkins is Pastor.
The theme for the 2020 program year is Moving Our Community Forward in its Journey Toward Racial Justice. The Dr. MLK Association sponsors an annual essay, poetry, and art contest in the local elementary and intermediate schools whose students will respond to the challenge of this theme.
The contest winners will be recognized at this service. The commemoration program will include participants from local churches, mosques, and synagogues as well as other civic organizations. The service will start at 1.00 pm, and will be preceded by a police escorted march to the church, departing the Dr. King monument on the circle (south-side) at 12:30 pm. The public is invited to participate in both the march and the service.
The keynote speaker for this event will be Dr. Mark Boyea, former senior pastor of the First Congregational Church in Westfield. Dr. Boyea has been an important supporter and resource for the MLK Association for many years.
The Dr. MLK Association has been a part of the Westfield community for thirty-three years. The purpose of the Association is to inspire and encourage our local communities to seek and adopt the high ideals espoused by Dr. King — especially those that promote respect, fairness, and justice for all people everywhere.
