WESTFIELD, NJ — A complaint of careless driving has been made by the Westfield Police Department against David Johnson, age 56, of Warren, the driver of a landscaping pickup truck that injured Dennis McGorty of Westfield on May 20.
McGorty was riding his bicycle east on South Avenue in Westfield that afternoon when he was struck and trapped under the truck’s trailer after the pickup made a right turn onto Downer from South Avenue, according to Captain Scott Rodger of the Westfield Police Department.
Westfield Police and Fire raised the trailer and extricated McGorty that afternoon.
“The Westfield Police Department has concluded its investigation involving pedacyclist Dennis McGorty of Westfield,” Westfield Police Chief David Wayman told TAP. “The investigation, which was conducted by the Traffic Safety Bureau, was forwarded in its entirety to the Union County Prosecutor’s Office for review. Upon conclusion of the review by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, a complaint has been made against David Johnson, age 56, of Warren.”
