WESTFIELD, NJ — Echo Lake Country Club in Westfield in is planning to hold an event for its members June 30 that will include fireworks.
At its June 19 meeting, the town council approved the use of fireworks at the event, which will celebrate Independence Day, but it put off making a decision about allowing fireworks at a private event at the club on July 14.
Echo Lake Country Club previously held a private event with fireworks once before, in October of 2017.
“My only concern would be, the Fourth of July one is great,” Mayor Shelley Brindle said during that night's conference meeting, “but I just think that if it becomes a habit of doing these private weddings or celebrations or whatever, it could become, you know — if you do one, how do you say no to others?”
The council could approve fireworks at the club’s July 14 event at its next meeting, which will be held on July 10.
