ELIZABETH, NJ – Two masked, armed robbers demanding drugs and money held up four employees of Mabel Pharmacy on Elizabeth Avenue Wednesday afternoon, according to police.
“The employees stated that two black males exited a small white SUV parked in front of 809 Elizabeth Ave. and entered the pharmacy," Elizabeth Police Lt. Daniel Geddes said. "As they entered the store, they pulled masks up over their faces. Both produced handguns and approached the counter.”
One suspect jumped over the counter and entered the rear area of the store where the pharmacy medication was kept and demanded Oxycotin, according to police. An employee handed over several bottles of Oxycotin and Oxycodone, they said.
According to police, the second male ordered an employee to open the register. She complied, and the male took an undetermined amount of cash. Both suspects then fled in the waiting SUV that then fled west on Elizabeth Ave. After an extensive search by patrol units, the SUV could not be located.
Detectives from the Elizabeth Police Department Detective Bureau are investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Raymond Smith at 908-558-2017.
