WESTFIELD, NJ — The Greater Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce held its 28th annual FestiFall in Downtown Westfield Sunday. The popular street fair and its springtime counterpart, Spring Fling (also a GWACC event) are always rain or shine, and this Sunday there was plenty of shine as temperatures reached into the 90s.

“It’s a beautiful summer-like day,” said GWACC Executive Director Gene Jannotti, who estimated that around 30,000 people visited the fair at some point during the day. “Everyone’s out here enjoying the food, the kid’s zone and the merchandise vendors.”

More than 230 local businesses, organizations and vendors participated. The kid’s zone offered rides and games, and entertainment was provided throughout the day on the main stage on Elm Street, culminating with classic rock/country music group High Strung at 4 p.m.

“It’s a great family day,” Jannotti said. “We are so pleased to be able to do this every year for Downtown Westfield.”

Although the budget contains much that I ...

Why We Keep Kosher

Why We Keep Kosher

This week's parshah, Shemini, introduces the Torah's dietary laws. Animals must chew their cud and have split hooves to be kosher, fish need fins and scales, and a list of forbidden fowl is enumerated.

To those of us in Jewish education, it is a continuing source of disappointment that so many Jews still believe the kosher laws to be outdated.
